I like the stubby round shift knobs... but those metal ones get super freaking hot. Even the partial metal knob on my S2000 was unbelievably hot if in the sun too long and held the heat way longer than my leather wrapped ones.

This is true. Was quite the awakening after the first day it sat out in the sun this summer.

Yeah, I started tossing something over the knobs when I get out or putting one of those sun deflectors on the dash (I should do that with all my rigs just to keep the dashes nice).

the police in Australia don't.. because no H pattern is visible.
yes they'll be that picky if they're in a bad mood.

Same, started using a big ole sun deflector deal. That and left the sunroof cracked open slightly, let all the heat out of the car. (have a visor on the sunroof too that kept the sun from shining in with it partly open)

Australia seems to have some goofy laws.

Hmm, I was considering getting one of these for my Subaru, but that's a definite problem. Do you know if the delrin knobs have the same issue?

They get hot too, but not like metal. The metal conducts so well that it holds the heat deep inside and takes a long time to cool down. Plastics and the like don't hold nearly as much heat, but get hot to the initial touch. My biggest issue with plastic knobs is that they lack weight... so they are only decent if they have a weight added inside and textured well.

I liked mine on my WRX... Haven't dropped in for my STI yet.

that's just the thing.. I can't find the relevant legislation or regulation for manual gear-knobs.
the design rules only specify that: "an Automatic Transmission selector must indicate which gear is selected"
but it still happens whenever police set up defect stations at car shows. Maybe there's some legislation hidden somewhere. Apparently it's fine if you have a sticker near the shifter.

That looks nice and queer. Old school Hursts are the best.
